The United States incarcerates individuals at a higher rate than any other country and in recent years state and federal prison spending has soared. As a result, many have argued that state and federal criminal-justice systems suffer from inefficiency and unfairness. University of Idaho College of Law Associate Professor Shaakirrah R. Sanders in her program Recent Trends in Criminal Sentencing Reform will examine current trends in criminal sentencing reform, including proposed legislative measures to greatly slash the skyrocketing prison population and recent United States Supreme Court jurisprudence on the issue of sentencing procedures in felony cases.
